Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one?

These days it seems like all the charismatic, attractive villains cease being villains and end up as love interests! So, going far back into the 18th century, a villain I've always loved is the Marquise de Merteuil in Les Liaisons Dangereuses (played by Glenn Close in Dangerous Liaisons or - even though it's not a direct adaptation - Sarah Michelle Gellar in Cruel Intentions). She's so fiendishly clever and manipulative, I can only sit back and admire the way she pulls everybody's puppet strings. I always feel bad for her at the end of the book/movie, although I suppose her ending is not as bad as all the other characters (at least she's still alive).

Q. If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? And, why?

Although series like Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, didn't end with every single thing exactly as I'd want it, apart from removing the epilogues of both (just thought there were unnecessary), I wouldn't really change anything from the stories the authors wanted to tell. I think one of the few times where I felt great upset and deep injustice at the end of a book, was back in school reading Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles. If I could change a book's ending, it would be that one. I'd want Angel to take the blame for Alec's murder, as his way of making up for how crappy he was to Tess and Tess herself would get away and go on to live a happy and fulfilled life.
